The 263-km Bengaluru–Chennai Expressway, traversing Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, is now expected to become fully operational by early 2027.
Originally slated for completion in 2024 and later revised to June 2026, the project has been delayed due to pending forest clearances, land acquisition challenges and financial constraints. The 72-km Karnataka stretch between Hoskote and KGF has been operational for nearly a year. In Andhra Pradesh, the 85-km segment is about 92% complete, while the 106-km Tamil Nadu portion has achieved roughly 80% progress.
A significant disruption occurred on the 25.5-km Arakkonam–Kancheepuram stretch, where construction was halted in May 2025 following financial difficulties faced by the concessionaire. The National Highways Authority of India has since issued a termination notice, and lenders have proposed appointing a new contractor to resume work.
Once finished, the expressway is projected to cut travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from around six hours to just over two hours, substantially improving regional connectivity.
