The Delhi Public Works Department (PWD) has approved the construction of five new foot overbridges (FOBs) aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety and easing traffic congestion in high-footfall zones across the National Capital.
The proposed FOBs will be built at the following locations:
SPM Marg near Old Delhi Railway Station, Uttam Nagar East Terminal, Hanuman Mandir on Ring Road, TPM Church on the Mehrauli–Mahipalpur stretch, Near Kendriya Vidyalaya, JNU, at Vedant Deshika Marg
Tenders for the construction of these bridges have already been issued.
A senior PWD official emphasised that the new FOBs are part of a broader initiative to make Delhi’s roads safer for pedestrians, particularly in areas with dense residential colonies, busy markets, and high Metro connectivity—conditions that often lead to heavy foot traffic, especially in west Delhi.
Delhi currently maintains around 115 FOBs, though many are yet to be equipped with lifts or escalators, as highlighted in a 2018 report. The new infrastructure aims to address these gaps while improving accessibility and road safety.
