On April 2, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated several major projects worth Rs 110 crore aimed at enhancing urban connectivity, improving traffic flow, and modernizing the region's civic infrastructure. The projects included a two-lane rail flyover, an automated vehicle fitness testing station, and a state-of-the-art convention centre.
The two-lane rail flyover, constructed at a cost of Rs 78.27 crore, stretches across 581.20 meters and connects Jorhat Medical College to Mission Hospital. This collaborative effort between the Assam government and Indian Railways is designed to alleviate congestion around the Kamarbandha Road area, enhancing road safety and providing smoother travel for commuters. During the inauguration, CM Sarma emphasized the flyover’s significance, saying, “This new flyover will not only ease traffic congestion but also bolster Jorhat’s urban infrastructure, benefiting commuters, students, and medical professionals traveling between these important locations.”
Another key development is the automated vehicle fitness testing station, built at a cost of Rs 12.5 crore, which will serve Jorhat, Golaghat, and Sivasagar districts. The station replaces traditional manual vehicle fitness tests with automated processes. This follows the inauguration of a similar facility in Biswanath on March 31, 2025, which was built for Rs 15.57 crore.
Additionally, CM Sarma inaugurated a modern convention centre in Chinnamara, built at a cost of Rs 19.98 crore. Spanning 3,118 square meters, the centre features a 120-seat auditorium, an executive lounge, a media conference hall, and suite cabins, all designed to accommodate government and public events. These projects are set to significantly enhance the region’s infrastructure and service capabilities.
