Sarma's ₹110 Crore Vision: Lakhimpur Set for Infrastructure Boom

On June 16, 2025, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for various infrastructure and civic projects worth approximately Rs 110 crore in Lakhimpur district, underscoring the state government’s continued commitment to regional development.

Among the key projects, the CM inaugurated the new office of the Lakhimpur Zilla Parishad CEO at Borimuri, constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore. He also unveiled plans for a centralized community kitchen by the Akshaya Patra Foundation at Bebejia Kumartup in Azad, to be developed at an estimated cost of Rs 26 crore.

Additionally, CM Sarma performed the 'bhoomi pujan' for an eco-park in North Lakhimpur (Rs 4.25 crore) and launched the second phase of the North Lakhimpur Urban Water Supply Scheme, valued at Rs 65 crore. At the Lakhimpur College of Veterinary Science, he inaugurated multiple facilities including a vocational training institute, guest house, indoor stadium, gymnasium, and canteen, with a combined investment of Rs 10.7 crore.

Highlighting the government’s long-term vision for the region, the Chief Minister cited the establishment of Madhabdev University and Lakhimpur Medical College, and announced progress on the Subansiri River bridge project, which will link North Lakhimpur to Dhemaji via Dhakuakhana. He also reviewed the status of ongoing key projects such as a cancer hospital, law and nursing colleges, an inter-state bus terminal (ISBT), public library, and a bypass road.
