Statehood Gift: Goa’s ₹49-Cr Riverfront Port Hub Opens May 30

Goa’s new state-of-the-art Captain of Ports Building on the Panaji riverfront is likely to be inaugurated on May 30 to coincide with Goa Statehood Day.

According to Michael Lobo, the nearly ₹49-crore project is in the final stages of completion and will bring all offices of the Captain of Ports Department under a single roof.

Developed across a built-up area of 4,405 sq m, the riverfront complex has been designed as a modern public infrastructure facility combining administrative functions with tourist-oriented amenities. The building will feature ticketing counters, lifts, waiting lounges, conference halls, restaurants, administrative offices and public viewing galleries overlooking the riverfront.

The facility will also introduce a common ticketing system intended to curb touting practices and ensure uniform ticket pricing for passengers and tourists using river transport and tourism services.

Officials said the project faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and proceedings before the National Green Tribunal, but construction work is now nearing completion.
