Uralungal Labour Contract Cooperative Society (ULCCS), a pioneering labour cooperative based in Kerala, is planning to expand its presence beyond the state by entering new infrastructure domains such as railways, airports, ports, and tunnels.
Renowned for its expertise in highway construction and government-backed infrastructure projects, ULCCS is actively pursuing prequalification for major airport, port, and tunnel initiatives. The cooperative is also in discussions with potential collaborators to enhance operational efficiency. “We are also looking for like-minded partners for collaboration to improve the efficiency while executing,” said Arun Baboo, Chief Operating Officer of ULCCS.
To support its national expansion, ULCCS is exploring new verticals including prefabricated building components, mechanised construction techniques, and advanced scaffolding systems. The cooperative is also integrating AI-assisted construction methods and automation across its operations. Its recently launched initiative, U-Sphere, aims to promote sustainable and technology-driven construction practices.
Established in 1925, ULCCS is wholly owned and managed by its workforce. The cooperative funds its projects primarily through ongoing construction revenues and institutional financing, including support from organisations like NABARD.
