UP Set to Launch 29 New Government Colleges This July

The Uttar Pradesh government is set to expand its higher education infrastructure with the launch of 29 new government degree colleges from the upcoming academic session beginning July 1.

The initiative is aimed at improving access to higher education and strengthening the state’s academic network across multiple districts. Of the 29 institutions, 20 are being established under the Prime Minister Jan Vikas Programme, while the remaining nine are being developed independently by the state government.

Officials said all 20 PMJVK-supported institutions will operate as regular government degree colleges under the state higher education department. Among the new colleges, two are being established in Pratapgarh district, with the remaining institutions spread across various regions of Uttar Pradesh.

The state government had earlier explored alternative operational models, including public-private partnership and affiliated college structures, but has now finalised the government-run college format for the new institutions.

Officials also stated that delays affecting some previously constructed colleges are being addressed, with pending infrastructure work nearing completion. These institutions are also expected to become operational from the new academic session.
