The West Bengal government has kicked off plans to construct an 800 MW super-critical (or ultra-super-critical) thermal power unit at the Bakreshwar Thermal Power Station. Spearheaded by the West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), the proposed Unit 6 marks a major ₹10,070 crore investment in the state's power infrastructure.
WBPDCL has invited bids to appoint a consultant for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study, with a submission deadline of November 17. Further project development will move forward once the EIA and regulatory approvals are finalized.
