India’s Green Leap: Record-Shattering 44.5 GW Added in 2025

India set a new benchmark in renewable energy deployment by adding 44.5 GW of capacity in 2025 up to November—the highest annual addition ever recorded—according to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

With this increase, the country’s total renewable energy capacity reached 253.96 GW in November, representing a 23 per cent rise from 205.52 GW a year earlier. The capacity added this year is nearly double the 24.72 GW installed during the same period in 2024. Solar energy led the expansion, with 34.98 GW added, taking total solar capacity to 132.85 GW—an increase of more than 41 per cent year-on-year.

Wind power also registered steady growth, with 5.82 GW of new installations, raising cumulative wind capacity to 53.99 GW, up 12.5 per cent from the previous year. India’s accelerating renewable energy expansion continues to play a critical role in advancing its clean energy transition and long-term sustainability goals.
