RIL to Launch Solar PV Module Production and Expand Green Energy Infrastructure

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will commence production of its own solar photovoltaic (PV) modules by the end of the year, marking a significant step in its new energy business. This development was announced by Chairman Mukesh Ambani during the company's annual general meeting. The first phase of RIL’s integrated solar production facilities, encompassing modules, cells, glass, wafer, ingot, and polysilicon, is nearing completion. The facility will have an initial annual capacity of 10 GW, with a modular design enabling swift and cost-effective expansion.

In tandem with its solar initiatives, RIL is enhancing its battery manufacturing capabilities. The company is constructing an advanced chemistry-based battery manufacturing facility in Jamnagar, set to have an annual capacity of 30 GWh. Production is expected to start in the second half of next year, with the facility initially focusing on Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) for utility-scale applications, as well as solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, telecom, and mobility markets. Over time, RIL plans to expand into cell manufacturing and battery chemicals production.

RIL is also making strides in green hydrogen production with the development of a fully automated, multi-GW electrolyser manufacturing facility on India’s west coast, slated to be operational by 2026. This facility will support various technologies and is designed for modular expansion. Additionally, RIL has begun project development on arid wasteland in Kutch, aiming to generate approximately 150 billion units of electricity over the next decade, potentially meeting 10% of India’s energy needs.

Further solidifying its green energy strategy, RIL has secured nearly 2,000 acres of land at Kandla port, enhancing its existing marine infrastructure at Jamnagar. This coastal infrastructure will be pivotal in the production, storage, and export of green fuels, ensuring competitive advantage and maximized value for RIL’s green energy ventures.

These initiatives underscore RIL's commitment to driving India's energy transition, leveraging cutting-edge technology and infrastructure to deliver scalable, renewable energy solutions. The company’s focus on AI and data-driven approaches is expected to make it a leader in providing affordable and reliable renewable energy on a global scale.
