APGENCO Hits 6,000 MW: A New Era of Energy Powerhouse

Andhra Pradesh has reached a significant milestone with its thermal power generation crossing the 6,000 MW mark, strengthening the state’s ability to meet rising industrial and domestic electricity demand.

APGENCO Managing Director S. Nagalakshmi stated that improved operational efficiency across power plants was achieved through equipment restoration, targeted maintenance, and the supply of high- and medium-grade Gross Calorific Value (GCV) coal to key facilities, including the Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station and the Rayalaseema Thermal Power Project. Technical upgrades such as Electrostatic Precipitator restoration and induced-draft fan blade rectifications boosted generation, adding up to 200 MW at certain units.

Financial stability also contributed to the achievement. A ₹1,000-crore working capital loan, along with capex funding, supported plant modernisation and ensured efficient fuel procurement. Additionally, successful negotiations with banks lowered interest costs, resulting in annual savings of ₹60 crore, while coordinated planning with coal suppliers and advance payments to washeries ensured uninterrupted operations.

Together, these operational and financial initiatives enabled APGENCO to record a peak thermal power output of 6,009 MW, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s energy security.
