JSW Energy's Ind-Barath Thermal Power Plant in Odisha Starts First Unit

Ind-Barath Energy (Utkal), a subsidiary of JSW Energy, has achieved a significant milestone with the successful commissioning of Unit-1 (350 MW) at its 700 MW (2 x 350 MW) thermal power plant (TPP) located in Odisha.

Following the successful commissioning, the operational capacity of the company has now reached 7,189 MW. This accomplishment enhances the company's ability to diversify its fuel mix, expand its geographical presence, and establish various off-take arrangements. The efficient commissioning of this unit underscores JSW's prowess in project execution, resilience, and exemplary teamwork, marking it as one of the swiftest turnarounds for a previously stalled thermal power project.

Furthermore, the newly commissioned unit is poised to support sustained high demand growth, contributing significantly to the nation's energy security requirements. The acquisition of Ind-Barath TPP, finalized through the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) proceedings in December 2022, has added strategic value to JSW Energy's portfolio.

At present, the company has secured 3.4 GWh of energy storage capacity through a combination of battery energy storage systems and a hydro pumped storage project. JSW Energy has ambitious plans to reach a generation capacity of 20 GW and achieve 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by the year 2030. With a total locked-in capacity of 9.8 GW, the company is well-positioned to meet its near-term target of 10 GW by 2025.

In addition to its growth targets, JSW Energy is committed to environmental sustainability. The company aims to achieve a 50 percent reduction in carbon footprint by 2030 and strives for carbon neutrality by 2050. This underscores JSW Energy's dedication to responsible and sustainable practices in the evolving energy landscape.
