The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) is currently allocating 933 MW of power to Odisha from its existing thermal power plants, with the potential to provide 1,463 MW in the near future upon the commissioning of upcoming projects.
These initiatives, exemplified by the completion of major projects like the NTPC Darlipali super thermal power station and NSPCL Rourkela PP-II expansion project, showcase the company's commitment to modern environmental practices. The projects not only generate direct and indirect employment opportunities but also contribute to the enhancement of physical infrastructure and various community development initiatives in the region.
The inauguration of the NTPC Darlipali super thermal power station and NSPCL Rourkela PP-II expansion project by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 3, 2024, marks a significant milestone. Additionally, the laying of the foundation stone for the NTPC Talcher thermal power project (TTPS) stage-III underscores the company's dedication to further expansion. All three projects in Odisha, with a total investment of Rs 28,978 crore, promise to bolster the state's power infrastructure.
The Darlipali super thermal power plant, situated in Sundargarh district, operates as a pit-head power station with cutting-edge technology, ensuring the supply of cost-effective power to beneficiary states. The NSPCL Rourkela project, with a capacity of 250 MW, caters to the reliable power needs of the Rourkela steel plant.
Moreover, the NTPC is strategically developing the Talcher thermal project stage-III within the old TTPS plant premises in Angul district, utilizing highly efficient ultra-super critical technology. This plant, boasting three times the capacity of the old TTPS Plant, signifies a leap forward in power generation capabilities.
Beyond thermal power, the NTPC is actively contributing to green energy production through solar power initiatives. With a vision to become a 130 GW firm by 2032, the company currently operates five thermal power stations and a solar power plant at Kaniha in Angul district, enhancing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions in Eastern Region-II.
