NTPC's Nuclear Boom: 30GW and Beyond

NTPC plans to develop 30 GW of nuclear power over the next 20 years, a target three times larger than its original goal. This expansion follows the government's decision to allow foreign and private investment in the sector.

With an estimated cost of USD 62 billion, the project will require significant land acquisition. The selected sites offer the potential for substantial capacity growth. NTPC’s new division, NTPC Parmanu Urja Nigam, is expected to make investments in the nuclear sector, possibly through strategic partnerships.

Currently, NTPC is building two 2.6 GW nuclear plants in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and is working to secure land approvals in eight states, including Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, despite previous obstacles.
