17-Year Wait Ends: Dhar District Gets Its First Train Service!

After 17 years, Dhar district, predominantly home to tribal communities, is set to receive its first-ever train service.

Indian Railways plans to commence operations on the Indore–Dahod route by March 2026, marking a significant milestone for the region. The 204.76 km new broad-gauge rail line, initiated in 2008, is nearing completion. However, officials note that, given the current construction pace, the project may require an additional six months. At present, 32.30 km of the line—from Indore to Tihi (21 km) and Dahod to Katwara (11.30 km)—is already operational.

Once completed, the line will provide a direct connection between Vadodara and Indore, significantly reducing travel time by bypassing Ratlam. The project, estimated at approximately Rs 1,873 crore, is progressing steadily, with tunnel construction expected to conclude by February 2026.
