Foundation for the Future: Kochi Metro Lays First Pier Cap

Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) successfully installed the first pier cap for the Phase II Pink Line viaduct on 28 August 2025, marking a key milestone in the city’s metro expansion efforts.

The 80-tonne pier cap, manufactured at KMRL’s Kalamassery casting yard, was mounted atop pillar number 281 on the Infopark Expressway using a high-capacity crane. The event was attended by KMRL officials and representatives from the contracting firm. Installation of additional pier caps is planned up to pillar 284 in the coming days, with necessary traffic regulations in place to ensure safe and uninterrupted work.

So far, 22 pillars have been completed for the Pink Line, reflecting steady progress on the project. The commencement of pier cap installation marks the transition to a critical phase of viaduct construction, setting the stage for rapid structural development.

The Pink Line will significantly enhance connectivity to Infopark and adjoining areas, with officials reaffirming confidence in the project’s timely delivery and alignment with schedule.
