The Chennai Division of Southern Railway is inviting Expressions of Interest (EOI) to repurpose vacant spaces at 15 MRTS stations along the Chintadripet to Velachery route into thriving commercial hubs. This initiative seeks to transform underutilized areas into vibrant commercial zones, boosting revenue and increasing the value of these prime locations.
The MRTS line, stretching 19.34 km from Chennai Beach to Velachery, is a vital transit corridor, especially for the IT professionals commuting daily. With Chennai's rapid modernization, the vacant spaces present a golden opportunity for diverse commercial activities, including retail stores, eateries, convenience shops, service centers, co-working spaces, warehousing, and boarding houses.
The EOI process will encompass identifying available spaces, analyzing market potential, and evaluating the feasibility of various commercial uses. The aim is to explore viable business opportunities while addressing potential development challenges and estimating associated costs.
This strategic move aligns with Southern Railway’s goal to optimize land use and generate additional revenue streams, while simultaneously enhancing the overall functionality and attractiveness of MRTS stations.
