The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has unveiled a ₹1,200 crore infrastructure development plan under Project Vijayak to strengthen road connectivity in Ladakh, announced during the project’s 15th Raising Day celebrations on September 21 in Kargil.
Key Components:
Widening of key strategic roads, Construction of tunnels and bridges, Adoption of advanced technologies such as:
Geotextiles, Slope stabilization systems, Digital monitoring, Eco-friendly construction methods
These initiatives aim to ensure year-round connectivity to remote and high-altitude forward areas, supporting both national security and regional development.
Since its inception in 2010, Project Vijayak has built over 1,400 km of roads and 80 major bridges. A recent milestone includes the reopening of the Zojila Pass just 31 days after its winter closure in April 2025—a record achievement in extreme high-altitude conditions.
Focus on Welfare and Sustainability
The BRO has also prioritized the welfare of Casual Paid Labourers (CPLs) through initiatives such as:
Insulated shelters, Improved sanitation, Protective gear and winter clothing, Regular health camps
These measures reflect BRO’s commitment to both operational excellence and human-centric development in India’s challenging frontier regions.
