The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has approved a revised cost estimate of approximately ₹700 crore for constructing a two-lane bridge over the Brahmaputra, connecting Majuli with Jorhat.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed the development and stated that the tendering process would begin soon to resume construction.
The Majuli-Jorhat bridge is designed to enhance connectivity to Majuli, the world’s largest river island, improving integration with the mainland. It will serve as a vital all-weather road link, reducing dependence on ferry services and enabling safer, faster travel for residents and tourists.
Despite previous delays due to cost escalations and technical revisions, this approval underscores a renewed commitment to completing the project.
