The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is working to complete the Mandi-Pandoh section of the Kiratpur-Manali four-lane highway by the end of August, aiming to enhance connectivity and ease traffic flow along this critical route.
This segment includes three major road bridges — two of which are nearly finished and expected to open soon. Progress on the third bridge, however, depends on weather conditions. Continuous monsoon rains in the Mandi region have posed challenges, despite round-the-clock construction efforts. Project Director Varun Chari stated that, weather permitting, all three bridges should be operational by the end of the month. The opening of the first two is expected to significantly reduce congestion and improve travel safety.
The Mandi-Pandoh stretch is particularly important for residents and tourists traveling to Kullu-Manali and Lahaul-Spiti, especially during the monsoon season and apple harvest period, when traffic volumes are high. Once completed, the section will shorten travel times, enhance road safety, and support regional tourism and transport.
NHAI has committed to fully mobilising resources and accelerating construction to meet the targeted completion timeline, contingent on favorable weather.
