Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has announced that the long-delayed Mumbai-Goa highway will be fully completed by June this year, offering long-awaited relief to commuters and boosting connectivity to the Konkan region. The upgraded highway is expected to significantly reduce travel time and spur development along the western coast.
Speaking at an event in Dadar, Mumbai, the Minister acknowledged past delays but confirmed that obstacles have been resolved and construction is progressing rapidly.
Gadkari also highlighted upcoming reforms in toll collection, revealing that physical toll booths will soon be phased out across India. The new system will use satellite tracking and automatic number plate recognition to directly deduct toll charges from bank accounts—cutting congestion and wait times while modernising India's highway infrastructure.
