The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is currently in the process of conceptualizing the development of Bengaluru's longest flyover along Old Madras Road (OMR) in Karnataka. This ambitious project involves the preparation of a comprehensive detailed project report (DPR) for the upcoming flyover, which is anticipated to reach completion by March 2024.
The projected cost for the flyover is estimated at Rs 1,500 crore and will be financed through the hybrid annuity model (HAM), entailing a cost-sharing arrangement between NHAI and the contracted entity. The proposed flyover will encompass a six-lane main carriageway, surpassing the length of Bengaluru's longest elevated road, the Electronics City Expressway on Hosur Road (NH 4). Construction activities are slated to commence approximately within a year's time.
This forthcoming flyover is slated to incorporate the integration of three underbridges along the OMR at strategic points, namely Katamnallur, Hoskote Junction, and MVJ Hospital at Kolathur. Recognized as the sole major national highway within Bengaluru, OMR presently faces challenges in accommodating the escalating traffic demands. NHAI aims to address this issue by proposing the construction of a nearly 15-km-long flyover, spanning from near the KR Puram police station to Kolathur Junction.
Moreover, the proposed flyover aims not only to alleviate congestion along OMR but also to facilitate smoother connectivity for commuters heading towards the under-construction Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway. This integration is anticipated to significantly enhance the overall traffic flow in the region and ease commuting for the populace.
