Work on the crucial Ghodbunder Highway in Thane is expected to be completed by January 2026, offering significant relief to commuters facing persistent congestion and diversions.
The update was shared by Cabinet Minister Pratap Sarnaik following a review meeting at the Thane Municipal Corporation headquarters. The highway, a key link between Mumbai’s eastern and western suburbs, has been undergoing extensive upgrades, including road concretisation, service lane integration, and major repairs. Several sections currently remain closed, causing traffic delays for commuters traveling towards Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Gujarat, and North Maharashtra.
Minister Sarnaik directed the timely completion of remaining works — including resurfacing of the Gaimukh Ghat section, road expansions, and utility relocations — to enhance traffic flow and road safety by 2026. Concurrently, other civic initiatives such as beautification and infrastructure upgrades are progressing across Thane.
