Maruti Suzuki Commits ₹450 Crore to Renewable Energy by FY25

Maruti Suzuki India (MSIL) recently announced a significant investment of ₹450 crore over the next three years to boost the utilization of renewable energy solutions. The initiative, starting from the financial year 2024-25, aims to enhance sustainability efforts. As part of this endeavor, MSIL has launched a pilot biogas plant at its Manesar facility in Haryana, leveraging in-house food waste and napier grass. This aligns with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy’s ‘Waste to Energy’ programme. With an initial investment of ₹120.8 crore in renewable energy initiatives, including solar power and biogas, MSIL is committed to reducing its environmental footprint. 

The pilot biogas plant is designed to produce 0.2 tonnes of biogas daily during FY 2024-25, offsetting approximately 190 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. Moreover, MSIL plans to expand its solar capacity to 43.2 MW and add 15 MW to its Manesar plant and 20 MW to the upcoming Kharkhoda plant over the next two years. 

This sustainable approach reflects MSIL's commitment to align with Suzuki’s Environment Vision 2050 and support the Government of India’s renewable energy focus. The biogas plant will not only provide energy for manufacturing processes but also create a zero-discharge model by utilizing residual organic manure in horticulture. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of MSIL, emphasized that the insights gained from this pilot project will be instrumental in shaping future manufacturing facilities.
