The Next Flight Path: Government Approves 11 Airport PPPs

The Civil Aviation Ministry has received in-principle approval from the Public Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) to privatize 11 airports bundled into five groups under the PPP model.

Designed to foster world-class infrastructure, the bundling strategy utilizes cross-subsidization—using profits from high-traffic airports to maintain the long-term viability of smaller ones like Kangra-Gaggal and Tirupati. Projects exceeding Rs 250 crore fall under the purview of the PPPAC for appraisal. This marks the next phase of airport privatization following the 2018-19 round, which saw six AAI-operated airports awarded to a single operator, the Adani Group.
