The ₹11,200 Crore Liftoff: Noida Airport Officially Joins the Map

On 28 March 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Noida International Airport at Jewar, marking a major milestone for both Uttar Pradesh and India’s aviation sector.

In his address, the Prime Minister highlighted that the airport represents the beginning of a transformative phase for the region. While flight operations were initially expected to commence by October 2025, the official operational start date is yet to be announced. The inauguration comes just four years after the foundation stone was laid in November 2021. The project has been developed at an investment of ₹11,200 crore under a concession agreement with Zurich Airport International AG signed in 2020.

In its first phase, the airport is designed to handle 12 million passengers annually, with long-term plans to expand capacity to 70 million passengers and up to six runways. Terminal 1, spanning 1.37 lakh sq. metres, is equipped with modern technology and sustainable design features, including 48 check-in counters, 20 self-baggage drop facilities, and 9 immigration counters.
