Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai has successfully commissioned Taxiway M, a significant upgrade to its airside infrastructure.
The new taxiway is designed to enhance operational efficiency and resilience at one of the world’s busiest single-runway airports, which manages over 950 aircraft movements daily. Previously, the airport relied on a single Parallel Taxi Track (PTT) N-N1, which created challenges due to sustained high traffic and limited maintenance windows. Taxiway M addresses these issues by providing additional full-length taxiway connectivity. The project required relocating the Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) building to achieve full-length alignment.
Executed in multiple phases, the first phase connected Runway 14-32, while the second established a continuous parallel taxiway network. Despite challenges such as uncharted utilities and working in a constrained environment, the project was completed on schedule, with Taxiway M commissioned on 25 December 2025.
