Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has submitted a letter of interest to the Maharashtra government for the acquisition of a 350-acre land parcel in Igatpuri, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen its manufacturing ecosystem.
The Mumbai-based automaker, which already operates plants in Nashik and Igatpuri, is evaluating the land for setting up a supplier park or expanding ancillary facilities to support its existing operations. According to Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director and CEO – Auto & Farm Sectors, the proposed site could function as a feeder facility for both the Nashik and Igatpuri plants.
The proposal is currently at a preliminary stage, with the next steps involving due diligence, regulatory clearances, and internal approvals. While M&M has formally expressed interest, the land acquisition is yet to be finalized.
Separately, Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO of Mahindra’s Automotive Division, confirmed that the company is also undertaking a major capacity expansion at its Chakan facility, adding 2.4 lakh units in Phase 1 this year. Once completed, Chakan’s total annual capacity is expected to reach 7.5–7.6 lakh units, aligning with Mahindra’s long-term growth and production plans.
