Manali Petrochemicals Ltd (MPL), a leading petrochemical company and a part of AM International, Singapore, has announced the expansion of its Propylene Glycol (PG) plant in Chennai.
The expanded facility will commence operations upon receiving the Consent to Operate (CTO) from the Tamil Nadu State Pollution Control Board. With this development, MPL’s total PG production capacity will increase by 50,000 tonnes per annum (KTPA), adding to its existing 22,000 KTPA—a major milestone in advancing domestic self-reliance in PG manufacturing.
This strategic expansion is in line with the Government of India’s “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives. It is expected to reduce import dependency, meet rising domestic and industrial demand, and enhance India’s competitiveness in the global chemical sector.
The increased capacity positions MPL to better serve key industries such as pharmaceuticals, food processing, personal care, and automotive, where PG is a critical input.
