The Government of Chhattisgarh and GAIL (India) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to explore the establishment of a greenfield gas-based fertiliser plant in the state.
The proposed project involves setting up a urea manufacturing facility with a capacity of 12.7 lakh tonnes per annum. The plant is planned to be located along GAIL’s Mumbai–Nagpur–Jharsuguda natural gas pipeline corridor, ensuring reliable gas supply. GAIL will undertake detailed techno-economic feasibility studies for the project, following which a final investment decision will be taken.
The collaboration underscores efforts to strengthen India’s fertiliser sector through the efficient use of natural gas and domestic resources. The MoU marks an important step toward meeting the country’s growing fertiliser demand while promoting energy-efficient and sustainable production.
