Bihar's Jhanjharpur Canal Gets a ₹217 Crore Modernization

The Water Resources Department (WRD), Bihar has issued a tender for the restoration and modernisation of the Jhanjharpur Branch Canal, as part of the Bihar Water Security and Irrigation Modernization Project (BWSIMP).

The project scope covers the rehabilitation of the canal system from 0.00 km to 42.06 km, including desilting, strengthening of canal banks, and upgrading of hydraulic infrastructure to enhance water distribution efficiency and minimise losses.

With an estimated cost of ₹217.65 crore, the project is expected to be completed within 24 months from the commencement date.

BWSIMP plays a critical role in Bihar’s long-term water resource management strategy, aimed at ensuring sustainable agricultural growth, food security, and improved livelihoods for farmers through modern, efficient irrigation systems.

The deadline for bid submission is 25 August 2025.
