Bullet Train: Mission Palghar Accomplished!

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday virtually witnessed the final breakthrough of a 1.5-kilometre-long mountain tunnel being constructed for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad bullet train project in Maharashtra’s Palghar district.

The tunnel, located between the Virar and Boisar bullet train stations, is among the longest mountain tunnels in the district and marks a key construction milestone for the high-speed rail corridor. According to the Ministry of Railways, this is the second tunnel breakthrough in Maharashtra, following the completion of the five-kilometre underground tunnel between Thane and the Bandra Kurla Complex in September 2025.

The 508-kilometre Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail corridor passes through Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. It is India’s only high-speed rail project designed for bullet trains operating at speeds of up to 320 kmph, reducing travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to approximately two hours and 17 minutes.

The project is being implemented with technical and financial assistance from the Government of Japan, highlighting international collaboration in India’s infrastructure development efforts.
