Charging Local: Eveready’s ₹200Cr Alkaline Milestone

Eveready Industries India has commissioned India’s first alkaline battery manufacturing facility in Jammu, marking a major step toward localising production in a fast-growing segment. The company aims to increase its share of the domestic alkaline battery market to around 25% by value over the next three years, up from about 16% at present.

The greenfield plant, built with an investment of დაახლოებით ₹200 crore, has an annual peak production capacity of nearly 360 million alkaline batteries. With this move, the Kolkata-based company becomes the only domestic manufacturer in the alkaline battery category, significantly reducing its reliance on imports.

Commenting on the development, CEO Anirban Banerjee said the company plans to fully eliminate imports of finished alkaline battery products. However, he added that certain raw materials will continue to be sourced internationally due to limited availability within India.
