Rolls-Royce is evaluating the expansion of its maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) operations in India to support both civil aviation and defence requirements.
The company is exploring potential partnerships to set up a dedicated MRO facility for the AE2100 engine, which powers the Lockheed Martin C-130J transport aircraft. According to Sashi Mukundan, Executive Vice President, Rolls-Royce India, the proposed facility would significantly enhance fleet availability, reduce turnaround times, and strengthen self-reliant sustainment capabilities for the Indian Air Force.
At present, Rolls-Royce operates an MRO facility in Pune that services marine engines and engines used in the Arjun Main Battle Tank. The company aims to position India as a strategic hub for its operations, in line with the strengthening India–UK partnership.
In addition to MRO expansion, Rolls-Royce plans to broaden its manufacturing footprint in India by scaling up existing joint ventures and deepening supply chain collaborations. Notably, the company has partnered with Bharat Forge to manufacture fan blades for its Pearl 700 and Pearl 10X engines, underscoring its commitment to local manufacturing and capability development.
