Adani Group is embarking on a transformative initiative to revitalize Dharavi, one of Asia's largest slums located in the heart of Mumbai. Securing a government contract for the redevelopment of Dharavi in 2022, the conglomerate is poised to initiate a comprehensive survey covering approximately 600 acres of the neighborhood. Commencing in two weeks, this survey marks the first step in Adani's commitment to revitalizing the area.
The survey, facilitated by Genesys International, will serve as the foundation for Adani's master plan, set to be submitted to local authorities by March 2024. To ensure a holistic approach, UK consultancy Buro Happold will address the physical infrastructure requirements, while Boston-based Sasaki Associates will oversee the overall redesign. Additionally, Adani has enlisted the expertise of Mumbai-based architect Hafeez Contractor and professionals from Singapore.
Upon completion of the project, eligible residents will be provided with a 350 sq. ft. flat within the revitalized area. Ineligible residents will be relocated to alternative areas across the city. With a budget of USD three billion, the project is anticipated to be finalized over the course of the next seven years, contributing to the sustainable and inclusive development of Dharavi.
