Godrej's Green Leap: ₹750 Cr Boost for Sustainable Chemical Growth

Godrej Industries’ Chemicals Business has announced an investment of over ₹750 crore to expand its production capacities, reinforcing its ambition to become a USD 1 billion global enterprise by 2030. The expansion reflects the company’s strong commitment to sustainability, with green chemistry forming the cornerstone of its growth strategy.

As part of the plan, Godrej will double its fatty alcohol capacity by 35,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) and increase Erucic Acid production by 20,000 TPA. The specialities segment will see a threefold capacity boost, adding 21,000 TPA. Glycerine capacity will also double with an additional 24,000 tonnes, while fermentation capacity is set to triple with a 1,500 TPA increase. Additionally, Primary Surfactants capacity will rise by 30,000 TPA.

To support its sustainability goals, Godrej will enhance hybrid power infrastructure and increase its reliance on renewable energy to 75%. The company is adopting advanced, energy-efficient processes and green technologies—including biocatalysis, fermentation, and continuous manufacturing—while pursuing zero-waste operations to minimize its environmental impact.
