Himachal Pradesh Aims for Tourism Crown with ₹2,400 Crore Investment

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a major investment of ₹2,400 crore to enhance tourism infrastructure in Himachal Pradesh, with the goal of positioning the state as the "tourism capital of the country." The ambitious plan includes the creation of new tourist destinations, construction of 200 hotels ranging from three-star to seven-star ratings, and the development of wellness centers and allied infrastructure.

During a public address in Bilaspur, the Chief Minister revealed that the government is also introducing a range of water-based adventure activities such as cruise services, houseboats, jet skis, motorboats, and water scooters at Gobind Sagar Lake and other water bodies across the state.

These initiatives aim to boost tourist footfall and generate significant employment opportunities for the local youth. Complementing this tourism push, the government also launched several infrastructure projects in Bilaspur, including a 110 kW rooftop solar power plant at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, a livelihood center, and four space labs.

The development of water-based adventure tourism is expected to significantly enhance Himachal’s appeal, particularly among thrill-seekers and adventure enthusiasts. Additionally, a ₹100 crore upgrade is planned for the facilities at Shree Naina Devi Temple, while Dharamshala will see the construction of a ₹200 crore convention centre.

The state government envisions a holistic tourism ecosystem that integrates religious, eco, water-based, health and wellness, and nature tourism, reinforcing Himachal Pradesh’s image as a premier travel destination in India.
