₹391 Crore Boost for Mumbai's New Creative Tech Institute

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting (MIB), in collaboration with the Government of Maharashtra and the Maharashtra Film, Stage & Cultural Development Corporation (MFSCDCL), has signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) in Mumbai. This landmark institution is dedicated to nurturing talent in the fields of animation, visual effects, gaming, comics, and extended reality (AVGC-XR).

To support its development, the Central Government has approved a one-time grant of ₹391.15 crore for infrastructure and initial operations. A 10-acre plot at Dadasaheb Phalke Film City in Goregaon, Mumbai, has been leased for 30 years to host the institute, reinforcing efforts to create a robust and sustainable digital creative ecosystem.

Envisioned as a global centre of excellence, IICT will focus on education, research, innovation, and skill development in the creative economy. Modelled on the framework of premier institutions like IITs and IIMs, it aspires to become a leading hub for media and entertainment. Until its permanent campus is operational, IICT will function from a temporary facility at the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) premises in Mumbai.
