Hospitality giant InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) is strategically positioning itself to expand its footprint in India over the next two to three years. With plans to double its portfolio, IHG aims to add 45 hotels, offering close to 7,000 keys across the country.
The company is actively exploring opportunities to introduce renowned global brands such as Regent and Kimpton to the Indian market. Discussions are underway for the inclusion of Staybridge Suites, Regent Hotels and Resorts, Kimpton Hotels and Restaurants, and the recently launched Vignette Collection. This expansion drive is fueled by the rising demand for branded accommodation in smaller cities and offbeat locations, with upcoming hotel projects planned in major metro cities like Chennai, Mumbai, and Delhi.
In 2023, IHG successfully introduced its global lifestyle brand, voco, in prominent Indian destinations including Jim Corbett, Gurgaon, Amritsar, Mumbai, and Goa. Notably, hotels in Delhi and Mumbai witnessed robust performance attributed to the resurgence of international travel, heightened business activities, and increased conference engagements. Anticipating a promising outlook for domestic travel in 2024, IHG expects continued momentum driven by staycations, weekend getaways, religious pilgrimages, and social gatherings.
Presently, IHG boasts 45 hotels across India, encompassing over 7,600 keys, distributed among five luxury and lifestyle brands, two Six Senses properties, and two InterContinental Hotels and Resorts. Additionally, the company operates 10 Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts in the premium segment and 31 Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels in the mainstream segment.
