Greenko Energies Private Limited is set to make a substantial impact with its upcoming Ippagudem Pumped Storage Project in Telangana. Located in Ippagudem Village, Mulugu district, this hydropower initiative represents a massive investment of 18,203.01 crore, positioning it as one of the most expensive hydropower projects in India. With a capacity of 3,960 MW, the project utilizes a closed-loop pumped storage system, effectively addressing the challenge of peak power demand by pumping water from a lower reservoir to a higher one during off-peak hours and releasing it to generate electricity during peak demand.
The benefits of the Ippagudem Pumped Storage Project are extensive. It not only ensures reliable and clean energy during high-demand periods but also enhances grid stability by absorbing and releasing excess electricity as needed. The project plays a crucial role in integrating renewable energy sources like solar and wind power into the grid by storing their excess generation. Anticipated to generate significant employment opportunities during both construction and operation phases, the project is an environmental boon, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and contributing to a greener environment.
Currently in the planning and development stage, the Ippagudem Pumped Storage Project has obtained environmental clearances, and land acquisition is underway. Construction is slated to commence soon, with completion targeted for 2028-29. Developed by Greenko Energies Private Limited, a leading renewable energy company in India, this project is poised to be a game-changer for Telangana's power sector, aligning with India's clean energy goals and paving the way for a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
