Marathwada's Water lifeline: Key Approvals Announced

At the 87th meeting of the Godavari Marathwada Irrigation Development Corporation held in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Water Resources Minister Dr. Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil announced several major initiatives aimed at strengthening water management, irrigation, and regional development.

Dr. Vikhe Patil stated that the irrigation department has approved a plan to divert 80 MLD (million litres per day) of water from the west-flowing Ulhas and Vaitarna valleys to the Godavari Valley. Alongside this, decisions were made addressing key sectors including water supply, irrigation, employment generation, energy production, and tourism development.

The meeting also reviewed land records and ongoing projects in the Parbhani district, as well as issues concerning Soygaon in Sillod taluka.

Key Approvals and Initiatives:

Floating Solar Project: Approved to reduce electricity costs for consumers.

Collection Lake Projects: Rs 225 crore allocated for lake construction at Sukali and Digras to address Hingoli's irrigation backlog.

Closed Pipe Irrigation Systems: Implementation in the Wakod and Shivana Talki projects, expected to benefit 9,217 hectares of agricultural land.

Reservoir Upgrades: Rs 25 crore sanctioned for improvements to Kolhapur-type reservoirs under the Pimpalgaon Walan project, benefiting 2,000 hectares.

Tourism Development: The Sant Dnyaneshwar Garden will be developed with external funding support.

These comprehensive measures aim to enhance water accessibility, boost agricultural productivity, and promote sustainable development across the region.
