"Mizoram's Rail Milestone: CRS Inspection Looms for Bairabi-Sairang Line"

The Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) is set to inspect the newly constructed broad-gauge rail line between Bairabi and Sairang in Mizoram by May or June, as discussed during a Northeast Frontier Railway’s Divisional Railway Users' Consultative Committee meeting in Lumding, Assam.

The Union Railways Minister has shown interest in attending the CRS inspection, which is conducted under the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The Bairabi-Sairang railway project is nearing completion, with 95% of the work finished and ₹7,714 crore spent out of the estimated ₹8,215 crore budget. The project is expected to be fully completed by July.

CRS Commissioner Sumeet Singhal had previously authorized freight and passenger train operations on the 16.725-km broad-gauge section between Bairabi and Hortoki after an inspection on August 22 last year.

During the meeting, Jonathan Lalremruata, a consultative committee member and OSD to the Mizoram Chief Minister, proposed establishing a railway reservation center and a parcel management service, both of which received approval. He also suggested introducing Rajdhani Express services between Sairang and Delhi. This proposal has been forwarded to railway headquarters, aligning with the central policy of connecting all state capitals with the national capital.
