The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is moving forward with plans to construct a colossal cricket stadium in Amane village, Thane district, Maharashtra. The envisioned stadium will boast a capacity of 100,000 spectators and will span across 50 acres. Located 26 km from Thane and 68 km from the iconic Wankhede Stadium, this new venue aims to feature state-of-the-art amenities and two grounds for simultaneous matches.
MCA has responded to an open tender issued by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to secure the necessary land. The proposal is currently awaiting approval from the Maharashtra government, marking a significant step in bringing this ambitious project to fruition.
Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has advocated for this project, urging Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to support the construction of a large-capacity stadium in Mumbai. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of enhancing sports infrastructure in the state.
The tender process initiated by MSRDC is part of a larger infrastructure development plan that includes the expansion of the Mumbai-Nashik highway and other significant projects aimed at boosting the region's connectivity and accessibility.
With governmental support and successful tendering, the MCA’s new stadium could become a landmark venue for cricket, potentially hosting major international matches and bolstering the sport's popularity in India.
