NALCO's Five-Year Vision: ₹30,000 Crore Boost

National Aluminium Company (NALCO) has announced a ₹30,000 crore investment over the next five years to establish a new aluminium smelter and a coal-based power plant, as part of its long-term expansion strategy. The announcement was made by Chairman and Managing Director Brijendra Pratap Singh on August 28.

Of the total investment, approximately ₹18,000 crore will be dedicated to setting up the aluminium smelter in Odisha. The project will be funded through a mix of internal accruals and debt to maintain financial prudence. An additional ₹12,000 crore has been earmarked for the development of a coal-based power plant, with NALCO currently in talks with Coal India and NTPC to explore potential partnerships.

This initiative is aimed at enhancing production capacity, ensuring energy security, and supporting vertical integration. To further strengthen its resource base, NALCO also plans to acquire new bauxite and coal mines. Additionally, the company is exploring opportunities to bid for critical mineral blocks in India, aligning with national priorities on resource security and industrial development.
