Electrosteel Castings Ltd (ECL), one of India’s leading producers of ductile iron (DI) pipes, is set to establish a research and development centre and a new manufacturing facility in India dedicated to precision water valves.
This development follows ECL’s ₹150 crore acquisition of Italy-based T.i.S Service, a specialist in advanced valve technologies. The move positions ECL to enter India’s growing ₹16,700 crore (approx. USD 2 billion) water valve market, while also strengthening its global presence.
Headquartered in Kolkata and promoted by the Kejriwal family, ECL currently has an annual DI pipe production capacity of 8,50,000 tonnes. The acquisition of T.i.S will enhance its product portfolio by integrating high-end valve systems with its existing pipe offerings.
Sunil Katial, CEO of ECL, noted that the company is exploring localisation of select T.i.S products to support the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
Madhav Kejriwal, ECL Director and President of T.i.S, added:
“With this acquisition, Electrosteel becomes one of the only global players capable of offering both ductile iron pipes and fittings, along with advanced valve technologies, under one roof.”
T.i.S operates manufacturing plants in Italy and Turkey, with technology centres in Italy and Poland.
In parallel, ECL is also planning a ₹3,000 crore DI pipe manufacturing facility in Odisha, further strengthening its domestic manufacturing base.
