NITI Aayog Unveils Strategic Blueprint for Economic Transformation of Key Cities

NITI Aayog has formulated a strategic blueprint aimed at catalyzing the economic transformation of key cities such as Mumbai, Surat, Varanasi, and Vizag, as part of India's overarching goal to achieve developed nation status by 2047.

Expanding its ambit, NITI Aayog is set to extend its economic revitalization plans to an additional 20-25 urban centers, recognizing them as pivotal nodes of economic activity. A comprehensive vision document, slated for release by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will outline the roadmap for these cities' sustainable development.

In a recent development, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde convened discussions with NITI Aayog officials to strategize measures aimed at propelling the GDP of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to USD 300 billion by 2030.

Furthermore, soliciting the perspectives of the nation's youth, the government has actively engaged universities and educational institutions to solicit inputs for driving India's development agenda towards achieving the 2047 milestone.

In 2023, NITI Aayog was entrusted with the consolidation of ten sector-specific thematic visions into a unified framework termed "Viksit Bharat @2047". This comprehensive vision encompasses multifaceted developmental dimensions, spanning economic progress, environmental stewardship, and effective governance, among other critical facets.
