NTPC Greenlights 2,400 MW Expansion for Nabinagar

NTPC Limited plans to expand the Nabinagar Super Thermal Power Project in Bihar’s Aurangabad district, increasing the plant’s total installed capacity to 4,360 MW under its Stage-II expansion programme.

The expansion involves the addition of three ultra-supercritical thermal power units of 800 MW each, which will raise the project’s existing capacity from 1,980 MW, currently generated through three 660 MW units under Stage I.

The new units are expected to incorporate ultra-supercritical technology and air-cooled condenser systems aimed at improving efficiency and reducing water consumption. The proposed 2,400 MW capacity addition is intended to strengthen round-the-clock power supply, support grid stability and provide Bihar with an estimated 1,500 MW of additional electricity.

The power station also reported strong operational performance during the 2025–26 financial year, generating more than 12,932 million units with a Plant Load Factor (PLF) of 78.28 percent. In parallel, NTPC said it continued implementing corporate social responsibility initiatives in 22 nearby villages.
