Skoda Auto is set to manufacture electric vehicles in India, reaffirming its commitment to investment even without a local partner. As India’s auto market expands rapidly, Skoda aims to strengthen its presence and leverage Volkswagen’s EV technology to stay competitive, especially with stricter fuel efficiency standards coming into effect in 2027.
The company has an agreement with Mahindra & Mahindra for EV components and continues discussions with other potential partners. While CEO Zellmer emphasized Skoda’s preference for a joint venture, he confirmed that the company is prepared to move forward independently if needed.
As part of its broader growth strategy, Skoda plans to invest USD 1.7 billion in Maharashtra for EV production, positioning itself to serve markets across Southeast Asia and the Middle East.
