The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has revised the cost of the northern segment of Telangana’s Regional Ring Road (RRR) project from Rs 7,104 crore to Rs 15,627 crore after approving an upgrade to a six-lane highway to accommodate future traffic needs.
Originally planned under the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) model, the project will now be executed through the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), with fresh tenders to be issued shortly. The earlier tender, released in December 2024, covered a 161-km four-lane stretch from Girmapur in Sangareddy to Bhuvanagiri district. Tender finalisation was delayed after the state government sought an expansion, which has since been cleared by the Centre.
The revised project covers a 161-km stretch from Girmapur in Sangareddy to Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, divided into five packages:
Girmapur–Reddipalle (43 km), Reddipalle–Islampur (26 km), Islampur–Rayagiri (43 km), Rayagiri–Tangadpalli (35 km)
The northern segment, part of National Highway 161-AA, will support travel speeds of up to 120 km/h. Compensation for farmers affected by land acquisition is currently underway to prevent delays in project execution.
