Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC), a Government of Gujarat enterprise and one of India’s leading lignite producers, has secured Environmental Clearance (EC) from the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) for its Lakhpat-Punrajpur Lignite and Limestone Mine located in Kutch, Gujarat.
The approval permits an annual production capacity of 3.0 MTPA of lignite and 29.81 MTPA of limestone, marking a key regulatory milestone for the company and providing enhanced long-term production visibility. This clearance further strengthens GMDC’s mineral resource portfolio within Gujarat and reinforces its presence across both fuel and industrial mineral segments.
The integrated development of lignite and limestone is expected to support critical sectors such as power generation, cement manufacturing, and other mineral-based industries. By improving supply stability, the project enhances GMDC’s strategic importance within Gujarat’s broader industrial ecosystem.
The Lakhpat-Punrajpur initiative forms part of GMDC’s long-term expansion strategy aimed at augmenting reserves, diversifying mineral streams, and ensuring sustainable operational growth. The company reaffirmed its commitment to responsible mining practices, environmental stewardship, and transparent regulatory compliance, focusing on sustainable value creation while progressing the project in alignment with statutory norms.
